The Lubrication - Maintenance Cost or Opportunity?
To those in the maintenance department, precision lubrication is a no-brainer. It
stands to reason that lubrication excellence is a good investment. Put simply, machines
run better when they are properly lubricated. However, for those in other parts of
the organization who don’t understand the nuances of elastohydrodynamic lubrication,
lithium complex grease thickeners or filtration beta ratios (or perhaps don’t care!),
spending money on lubrication upgrades and improvements is simply another overhead

The Timken Test machine is a way of simply creating a level playing field where one lubricant can be tested against another, taking out any hearsay, bias or tradition.
The video demonstrates how ProTecta Spray Lube and Precision Oiler perform on the Timken Test Machine up against leading products such as Inox, WD-40, RP-7 and 3-in-1 handy oiler.
The Timken test consists of a rotating ring-on-block geometry. The apparatus produces a relatively high sliding speed combined with high contact loads to severely stress the lubricant. As a result, the Timken test is ideally suited to evaluation of lubricants and greases intended for use in harsh applications. Both lubricating fluids and greases can be evaluated to determine the applied load required for the onset of severe abrasive wear and scuffing. When conducted in a laboratory environment the Timken Test is an internationally accepted standard for testing a lubricants ability to withstand. The most widely used test methods for the Timken test are ASTM D 2782 for liquid lubricants and ASTM D 2509 for greases.
